Ayurveda is over 5,000 years old from India. 'Ayu' meaning life and 'veda' meaning 'knowledge or science'. With its strong connection of mind, body, sense organs and soul, it allows for holistic healing. Its concerned with preventative measures to avoid ill health, and for people with health challenges to improve. It looks at people in 3 doshas: Vata, Pitta Kapha, and recommends specific foods, oils and lifestyles depending on your dosha. The theory encompasses the person and balancing the body systems in line with the 5 mahabhutas (elements of the universe: space, air, fire, water, earth) it looks at diet, emotions, lifestyle, exercise, meditation and massage.
